Trump's Disaster Aid Hijack The latest salvo in the ongoing battle between state governments and the Trump administration over disaster relief funding has landed in federal court.
A group of Democratic attorneys general have filed a lawsuit, arguing that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema) are using disaster preparedness grants to force states to adopt White House backed policies on voting and immigration.
At issue is the requirement that federal grants – worth over $740 million combined – be used for purposes aligned with agency priorities.
